Reads of the Week 01

I have this habit of catching up on all my reading in one day, every Friday.

This includes blogs I’ve added on Reeder, Affdaily.com, Lifehacker.com, various categories related to biz, design and marketing on Zite, as well as the various marketing forums I’m a member of.

This marks the inaugural issue of the Reads of the Week feature, I hope you enjoy the posts!

There are only 3 this week but that’s sort of the whole point.

I try to filter out the best reads instead of copying and pasting large chunks of links.

My SEO hero Jonathan Leger talks about the importance of building a really valuable site that will be timelessly important come what may; Panda, Penguin, Eagle, whatever.

My marketing hero talks about a phenomenon I’ve come to appreciate in life. Long story short: If you’re an expert, people will respect whatever you say even if it doesn’t make sense. If you’re a newbie, nobody trusts you until you prove yourself.

I’m a late riser and work best at night. I’ve been trying to become a morning person since years ago without success and more or less came to the conclusion that I was probably just a “night person”. Thanks to this post, I’ve just downloaded the app “Math Alarm”, let’s see if this does help me get up easier :)

Back for real this time

Hello!

I am feeling really productive today as I’ve finally put epicskillz.com at a stage I can declare “launch-able”.

There is still much space for improvement of course, but I’ve finally managed to put up something without missing pages, where everything’s formatted etc.

Finally!

I’ve also put a “like” button on the sidebar, so please feel free to show your support :)

In any case, I finally realize that maintaining a blog takes alot of time and effort, so I’ll be implementing a posting schedule for myself, and I need to revive the Epic Interviews series by making new interviews more frequent.

All in all I’m really excited about things to come for epicskillz.com, and I would really appreciate your feedback as to what could be improved at this point in time.

I’m trying my best not to focus too much on aesthetics at the moment though, and to put more attention into getting great content up and running for you guys.

I need to blog about a bunch of stuff I’ve wanted to blog about for the longest period of time; about my workspace, how I keep myself organized etc.

ADHD Summary:

1) epicskillz.com is back in action, and good stuff is coming.
2) Click “like” on the sidebar
3) Join my mailing list

That’s all folks!

Cheers!
-Kang

New Design Coming Soon

It’s been more than 100 days since my last post.

It’s a tragedy to note that the last of my profitable aff campaigns have gone up in smoke over the last few weeks and that my next aff pay check is less than 4 figures.

Such is what happens when you manage a day job, an agency, and an affiliate marketing business – as a one man show – the one leg which involves the least accountability (guess which?) would have to fall.

Fortunately, not all is lost.

The agency side of the business has been growing consistently, and I’ll be making another attempt at hiring an accounts executive in the next couple weeks. Hopefully things work out this time round.

At the day job, I’ve also been putting systems in place to make my personal intervention minimal. I have alot of freedom in deciding how things are done, which is a very good thing indeed.

Finally, I made one last attempt at getting a designer for EpicSkillz.com in December. And yes, it failed again. I thought hiring an American instead of my usual Filipinos and Indians would make a difference, but unfortunately the guy disappeared without a trace again and I thought I’d just save the hassle and really do it myself this time.

I’ve read a couple books from Smashing Magazine and brushed up a little on CSS, so I guess I can at least make the blog look presentable, and then I’ll just forget about the design and dive head in building campaigns and getting back to writing consistently!

As of this writing, this is how the blog looks.

R.I.P, old look.

I’m going to continue the site re-design by arming myself with this ghetto piece of sophistication.

Let’s see what damage I can do.
